One of my favorite books we read in high school was The Great Gatsby. I have always said if I could go back to one era for a day, it would be the Roaring Twenties, and it all stems from the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I love the story so much, I've actually watched both the original film and the 2013 remake this year. And a big apology to Leo, but Robert Redford will forever be Jay Gatsby to me.
Beyond the fashion, the lavish parties, and the legitimate dancing (no, the "stanky leg" and other ridiculous crazes are not dancing) I'm also in love with the glamorous interiors. Art deco is my favorite architectural style from the expressionist movement, so while I love simple and modern design, I plan to bring some pops of the 20s in my future home.
Nail the look by pulling together:
1. Stepped Forms
2. Lush & Exotic Fabrics
3. Ornate Linear Details
4. Bold Contrasts
I'm you're looking for a dose of "pomp and circumstance" yourself, then here are some lovely pics that will make you want to throw on a flapper and do the Charleston. Check it out, Old Sport.
